TOURISM FAIR IN LAMBAYEQUE – CHICLAYO 2008,
IS DISTINGUISHED IN MADRID
Jaime Rull is organizer of FITPERU Lambayeque – Chiclayo 2008, an event whose sixth edition will take place at the end of February in these cities. On January 28, he was awarded the “Silver Caravel” Prize during some activities that were carried out prior to the International Tourism Fair FITUR 2008 in Madrid.
“This objective of awarding this trophy is to honor Spanish and Latin American citizens whose cultural, artistic and business work in the field of tourism has improved ties and friendship between Spain and the countries of Latin America,” said Alfonso Rojo, a Spanish journalist who presided over the qualifying committee that granted the prize in mention. This is the first time that this prize was awarded just before one of the most prestigious events in world tourism, FITUR, commences in Madrid.
Rojo continued by saying “‘The Silver Caravel’ that Jaime Rull receives today is a fair recognition of his effort to contribute to the development of tourism over the last thirty years in Ecuador and over the past year in Peru. Rull has been promoting the tourism-related resources from both countries.” Rojo emphasized the fact that Rull has been participating in tourism-related events in Barcelona, Quito and Guayaquil since 2001. This year, he also started to work on a tourism-related event in Peru, starting with the Northern Coastal cities of Lambayeque and Chiclayo.
Rojo also highlighted multiple public recognitions that Rull has received, including the “Batista and Roca Prize” in 1998 from Jordi Pujol, the President of the Catalonian Government, in recognition of his work to externally promote Catalonia, and the “Dr. Vicente Rocafuerte” Prize in August 2007 from the National Congress of the Republic of Ecuador, in recognition of the professional and business work that he did to benefit tourism in this country.
The ceremony took place in the Simon Bolivar Room, in the House of America, which is located in the Linares Palace. During this ceremony, Esperanza Aguirre, President of the Madrid Community, also received the “Silver Caravel.” During her speech, she showed gratitude as well as congratulated the organizers and the distinguished people who received the prize for having contributed to the construction of new cooperation bridges between Spain and Latin America.
Jaime Rull cited some phrases by the President of the Madrid Community and revealed the hope that these “new cooperation bridges between Spain and Latin America” continue to grow, especially in the field of culture and tourism. In this way, “we will be able to achieve real exchange between our people,” he concluded.
Other people also received this award, including Miguel de la Cuadra Salcedo, Director of the Quetzal Route, Álvaro de Marichalar, swimmer and representative of Messengers of Peace, Luís Callejón, President of EUROAL, Pedro Suárez- Vértiz, singer-songwriter and Felipe Carbonell, Spanish comic who has been nationalized in Peru.
